Steaks sizzling on the BBQ filling the air with the most yummiest of smells.
Can you imagine a better way to spend a quiet june summer night than surrounded by close friends and family?
I can't think of a better way and I am sure you will agree.
Who can resist mouthwatering steak fresh off of the BBQ.
Crisp salads, luscious fruits and ice cold beer.
We spent the twilight gathered around a roaring bonfire while the children played as the sun is setting.
And who could resist rounding off the night with homemade S'mores before tucking sleepy children into the van for the ride home.
So much fun but when you are trying to steer clear of processed foods.
It's a challenge...
For the record, don't buy a s'more kit at Canadian tire.
The kids wouldn't go anywhere near them and the few brave adults that sampled one had varied complaints from the graham crackers tasting "funny" the marshmallows were hard as rocks and the chocolate was all wrong.
That's what you get when you BBQ s'mores!
Because I didn't make all of the dishes myself I loaded up on fruits and fresh veggies while ditching the store bought salad dressing.
Slowly we are making progress.
Changing the entire way you look at food is daunting but doable.
If it took an entire generation to change our thinking into believing processed foods were cheap & healthy it going to take a bit to "re-boot" the system.
But, here's a recap of Day 6
Breakfast: Flax toast & greek yogurt with Strawberries & blueberries
Lunch: Grill cheese sandwiches & a banana
Dinner: BBQ steak, garlic mashed potatoes (Which was my addition to the feast so I know exactly what was in that!) fresh fruit and fresh veggies.
And of course, in true style Punky was more of a 2 year old than a 19 month old.
She gets into everything...
She found the diaper cream popped open the lid and she smeared the sticky-white- tar- like- substance-will-need-a-blow--torch to get off all over her hands, her knees and decided to have a taste too.
Guess she thought we needed a chuckle!
Before I scooted her off to the tub I had to show her off outside!
let the scrubbing begin!
