A newbie foodie makes Kale Chips

I've seen a couple of people talking about kale chips recently, so if you remember I posted the question "would a 5 & 7 year old eat Kale"  on my Adventures-with-Four facebook page and one of my  friends posted one of her favorite  Kale recipes.

The recipe just looks so ridiculously easy and wonderful so I had to try it for myself.

Kale, a vegetable that is in the same family as cabbage, is full of nutrients, including vitamins A, C, K, and calcium.
It is also rich in antioxidants and is a great source of fiber
(WOO HOO!)

Rough Recipe:

  • Preheat oven to about 375*F

  • Use a stuffed grocery store veggie bag of Kale.

  •  Tear the leaves off the thick stems into bite size pieces. Spread out on cookie sheets.

  • Drizzle with about 2 tsp of olive oil

  • Sprinkle with Parmesan, Asiago or your seasonings of choice. Plus a sprinkle of kosher salt.

  • Bake for about 15 minutes, until edges are brown and kale is crispy when moved in pan.

So what happened?
I used baby kale as I didn't want to commit to an entire bag of kale if this turned out poorly.{it didn't} but next time I make these chips am going to try garlic salt and only roast it for 12 min instead of 15.

I found these chips are extremely light and very crispy like a chip but it might take some a lot to convince the kids {and big daddy} to try them. I ate almost all of them just to myself!

What are your favorite kale recipes?

  1. I have to admit that I've never prepared kale. When we first moved into our house in July four years ago the previous owners had a garden FULL of Kale. I didn't quite know what to do with it. I'll have to try this recipe though because I know that kale is full of nutrients. Thanks for sharing.

I'm visiting from the Friday Chaos Hop and I'm now following you via Twitter, FB, and Pinterest. Have a wonderful weekend,

    Cheers,
