I think the "island"mentality is starting to rub off on me a little.
Where we weren't rushing around but we stopped and slowed down.
Investing in quality time together laughing and exploring the beauty around us.
It's so easy to take your partner for granted and I have really enjoyed these last few days alone with my husband. **happy sigh**
Even thought I didn't plan any of our activities today was a really great day.
Since we arrived Friday afternoon we haven't had a reason to leave Tofino but the weather was beautiful so we took this opportunity to do a little sight seeing.
Apparently Tofino gets an insane amount of rain so when the sun is shining and it's nice you take advantage of it!
We drove into Ucluelet and found a side road leading down to "little beach" so we parked the car and explored a bit. We watched a school of fish swimming close to the shore.
They were quite hard to see until they rolled and turned in the shallow water the sun light catching the bottom of their bodies reflecting a flash of silver onto the water above.
Walking along the little beach we explored the coast line, balanced on top of pieces of drift wood and scampered up rocks. ( didn't trip is time!!)
We headed up a to radar hill and saw the most amazing panoramic view of the pacific rim national park.
I have to admit, I was a little nervous after seeing a "wolves in area, cougars in area" sign. Im not interested in becoming lunch!
We only saw bumble bees so I was pretty thankful.
We checked out one of the
Top 10 things to do in tofino { we actually did #10}
"You're in the Tree Loving Capital of the World. In fact, hug Tofino's 800-year old celebrity tree located half a block from Jamie's Whaling Station. This tree was slated for the chainsaw in early 2001until local residents, including two men who lived in the tree's canopy for 37 days, stopped the saws and saved the giant. The tree and the resident's fight to save it, landed on the front page of national newspapers, became a regular story on the nightly radio and television news and was even featured on CNN Headline News. The Tofino Natural Heritage Society was created to preserve natural living icons in our village such as this western red cedar tree and $60,000 was being raised to fit this tree with a first of a kind steel girdle to fortify it against old age."
We went tried our hand at Geocaching {check that one off my summer bucket list!}
A little more frustrating than I had expected but I would love to do this activity with the kids for sure. It's a little like a scavenger hunt but when your unfamiliar with the area it's feels a lot like getting lost on purpose then finding yourself again.
We have had a busy day!
The sun is setting, the tide is going back out and I am ready for sleep!
This was my view from my window tonight.....
Beautiful, simply beautiful.
The patio door is open while I sit in silence listening to the ocean waves.
I can not wait to take my children here!
