creepy crawlies n' tiny trees

WoW, haven't had a chance to post in a few days.
Can you tell that spring is finally here?
The weather has been absolutely beautiful so we are taking full advantage to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
{which means no "screen time"}
The sandbox has been replenished and the kids are enjoying ever second of outside playtime.
So much so we deal with "aww..do we have to come in"
Bliss!
I am loving relaxing on the deck listening to my babies giggle outside.
The sun feels so good on my skin!
Mr. D was given a tree honoring the end of this first full year or school.
{sob, how can grade 1 be over so soon?}
Because we don't know if this will be our "grow old house" we planted it in a pot so when/if we move it will move with us.
He was given a lodgepole pine tree.
Apparently it can grow up to 100 feet!

It's Butterfly time!
This is our third year that we have decided to "raise"butterflies.
Life science in action.
Best way for the kids to learn and I am going to be honest with yo.
It is so cool to watch.
Here they are the day we brought them home from the store:
{May1st}
Teeny tiny and oh so cute!!
{yes,bugs can be cute when they are trapped in containers}
A week later: I snapped this yesterday morning
 {may 8th}
Notice how fat  they have become!
Not sure what is in their food but it must be high in protein for them to grow that much.
If you look closely in the picture you will see that two caterpillars are already assuming the "j" position which means our caterpillars were heading into the chrysalid stage soon.
VERY SOON!!
 Giggles and I picked up a few more flowers for our garden and picked up a special one for the butterfly pavilion.
After our day running around I found that they had all turned.
So, I carefully removed the paper towel and I taped it to the top of our butterfly pavillion.
I added in a purple viola for food.
{plus it gives us something to look at too}

Won't be long now...
Then we will be enjoying  a butterfly party celebrating their release :0)
