Obviously considering my last post was months ago.
I won't bother even trying to come up with a reason why I haven't been around because:
A.I don't want to insult your intelligence. (and I don't really know if you would want an excuse, would you?)Real life vs. online life.
Gee..wonder what part one?
B: thinking up something Witty on the fly is next to impossible with out timmies coffee (did I mention the nearest Tim Horton's is over an HOUR away.
I know, how on earth am I going to be able to enjoy this vacation?
A quick "tweet" before I continue to catch you up in 140 characters or less.
"Children have slowed down for the summer...momma happy!"
Anyways...like I have said before. Life is always an adventure.
So why would vacation be any different?
We had originally decided that we were going to head out around noon.
That way we could see Niffy nunu before she left for New York for her mission trip and Punky would have a nice full belly and would be ready for a l-o-n-g nap making our trip a quiet one. But, that didn't happen.
Because in my world, there is always going to be an adventure and I never really have to look very far to find one.
Big daddy did a water change the night before for our salt water fish tank and when we awoke in the morning our puffer fish was playing dead at the top of the tank and the other fish we looking very green around the gills.
A 20% water change later and we now need a trip to Big al's to pick up a needed chemical that we did not have but needed to add to our tank.
After packing our van to the brim in the pouring rain we took our youngest and did a milk run of "odds and ends" before we finally got on the road and started our trip south. We didn't end up hitting the highway until well after 2.
It poured the entire trip...honestly started thinking we needed to trade in the mini van for a boat we have seen that much water!
Twice we had to stop and adjust the Chariot on top of the van to eliminate road noise but the kids had their headphones so they could watch movies on the DVD.
We had snacks and good company so I knew the trip was going to be a good one.
Honestly, we were going to the mountains. Spoiled not once but Twice in a month I was excited to leave the city behind in exchange for crisp mountain air and soak in the beauty of mountain waterfalls and snow capped peaks.
I even thought it was going to be a quiet straight forward trip.
I have always believed that God will throw things in our way to make sure that we are safe and with all of our "odds and ends" he has done it again!
Actually, he did it twice!
The first time, We weren't even past Calgary when my mom called and shared with us that highway 93 was closed. The very highway we were supposed to be taking to get to Radium. Usually when accidents happen the roads are cleared in a few hours time so we took a side trip into Canmore for a quick bite to eat.
The place was dead so the waitress was kind enough to let the kids "roll" the pool balls on the pool table to give them some entertainment while we waited for food.
We ate and headed out only to find out that yes,the highway was closed and they weren't sure when it was going to re-open.
So, we were detoured and had to drive an additional two hours up to Golden and then back down to Radium so we could start our vacation.
I'm not sure how long the link will last so I have copied and pasted it but you can find the article here: victims of fiery bc crash
"A family of four from California was killed when their camper van crashed with a tractor-trailer near a British Columbia national park, the RCMP confirmed on Saturday.
The fiery crash happened Friday afternoon at about 3 p.m., when a truck pulling two empty flat-deck trailers jackknifed on Highway 93 near Kootenay National Park, colliding with a camper van that was towing a small SUV.
The driver of the rig managed to escape but the family's vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Investigators said the family, from Palo Alto, Calif., included a 48-year-old father, his 49-year-old common-law wife and their children, a 12-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl.
"Canadian border records indicate that the family had just entered British Columbia while on vacation back on (Thursday)," said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
Police still don't know what caused the crash but it appears that the tractor-trailer was coming down a hill when it crossed the centre line, jackknifed and pinned the camper van, which was in the oncoming lane, against a concrete post.
Moskaluk said the driver of the camper van attempted to avoid the truck but was unable to prevent the crash. Roads in the area were wet at the time, he said.
The Canadian Press is reporting that Highway 93 near Olive Lake remains closed until further notice.
Moskaluk said the explosion does not pose any immediate wildfire threat."
As I type this the road is still closed and we aren't sure when/if it will re-open before we have to head back home.
Anyways, back to my story.
We continued on with our drive and enjoyed the twists and turns along the way.
The road to Golden is breathtaking with lots of dips and climbs.
Watching the sunset across the mountains was amazing but I am not sure if the kids would agree with meas they were a little grouchy over our extended car trip.
Punky was awake for the majority of the trip and didn't end up falling asleep until we were 30 minutes from our destination. Giggles wanted to go back home so she could sleep and Mr. D was b-o-r-e-d. FINALLY we got to our destination.
The sleepy children of course are now up.
The vehicles were unloaded and after unwinding we finally got settled into our beds and it wasn't until morning we learned about this:
Trans-Canada in B.C. to be closed for days after mudslide
"FIELD, B.C. — A large mudslide has closed the Trans-Canada Highway between Lake Louise, Alta. and Golden, B.C.
Parks Canada spokesman Mark Merchant says mud, rock and large trees poured onto the highway late Friday night near the spot where the road overlooks the Spiral Tunnels on the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Merchant says no one was injured, but provincial officials in B.C. say the highway will likely remain closed until Sunday afternoon.
He says the slide likely occurred because the area has received a lot of rain lately.
Traffic is being detoured south on Highway 93, which has reopened after being closed Friday due to a fatal crash that involved a fuel tanker.
Last month, a woman was injured when her car was caught in a mudslide on the Trans-Canada between Hope and Chilliwack."
This was the road that we had just come off of.
Not sure when the mudslide happened but God knew and he had us snug and safely tucked in our nice warm beds out of harms way.
Twice in one day!
Usually it's pretty easy to not even notice these kinds of things but seeing things like this show me how much my father loves me and my family.
Awesome eh!
So now we are here...the children have had a chance to enjoy the outside pool.
Big daddy and I are planning what the next few days will look like and, guess what peeps... I am back!
I love vacation life... **happy sigh**
I have to share this view as seen from our balcony.
I was enjoying this while drinking my coffee this morning.
You can't really see it but the golf course is just past the trees.
I even brought my clubs...hopefully that doesn't make the news!!.
If it does I am just sharing with you now that I will NOT be posting it!
And this is the view when you walk around to the backside of our balcony.
Absolutely amazing.
K, time to chase youngsters to bed.
Have a great night!
